내가 꿈꾸는 삶은 이렇다. 오전에는 비상근직 법원 속기사로 일한다. 내 사장님은 높은 사무실에서 오크 원목으로 만든, 말도 안 되게 거대한 책상을 가진 부자인 판사다.
오후에는 탄탄한 한국어 프로그램을 자랑하는 대학교에서 부교수로 일하며, 한국어 학습자들에게 한자와 고급 문법을 가르친다.
또한, '종시적이고 야망 있지만 학계 일은 지루해 죽겠어'라는 한국인 교수님이 학계에서 벗어날 수 있도록 회고록 원고 글쓰기를 코칭한다.
그리고 내가 살고 있는 도시는 자동차를 구매할 필요 없을 정도로 교통체계가 잘 발달되어 있다.
What is a writing coach?A writing coach is an emotionally labor-intensive literary collaborator who intrudes not only on a writer's words but also on their psyche, life, pains, emotions, goals, and habits, helping them confront their writing demons. When a writer is too busy, too afraid, or simply unenlightened about how to journalize their story, the writing coach provides a reality check to help them start or maintain momentum; we guide authors through the various paths to bring their stories to the surface.A skilled writing coach understands that the publishing industry has been dismantled, meaning the barrier to entry is damn near collapsed. A traditional publishing deal is no longer the sole route to literary success; writers can now publish polished essays on a free blog, compile them into a self-edited and self-designed e-book, share a purchase link on social media, and print on demand as orders come in. No more departmental bureaucracy! This approach is far more sustainable than printing hundreds of books at once and hoping they sell out. If successful, that same book can help the author connect with their tribe through speaking engagements and writing retreats.I never promise an author a thriving writing career, a publishing deal, recognition, awards, or any of the glitz and glamour many aim to achieve. My only promise is to maintain an impartial investment in the outcome of the product, whether it's a 5,000-word essay or a full manuscript. The author pays for an easy-to-work-with collaborator, the emotional support I bring to a project, and my advocacy for their voice—resulting in reduced stress and on-time submissions.
